Essentials: An Introduction to Young-Onset Dementia

This course will provide an overview of dementia in younger people, including clinical features, use of investigations including genetic testing, and the post-diagnostic needs of people affected by young-onset dementia (YOD) as patients or carers.
The day aims to improve delegates confidence in assessing younger people with cognitive symptoms, more appropriate use of investigations, better understanding of genetic issues in YOD, greater understanding of the post-diagnostic needs of people living with YOD and how to meet these.
After attending this course, delegates will have a better understanding of:
- How to distinguish organic and functional cognitive symptoms in younger people
- How to diagnose rarer dementias including frontotemporal dementia, including use of biomarker-based genetic tests
- How to support people affected by YOD after diagnosis
