Connecting with People - Self-Harm Awareness and Suicide Response for Practitioners

Full Day Training
9am to 4.30pm

Connecting with People has a robust approach to self-harm and suicide prevention, which combines compassion and governance to improve the assessment of people at risk of suicide by enhancing the quality, consistency and documentation of assessments, care plans and safety plans.

The Connecting with People approach ensures that every episode of self-harm and suicidal thought is taken seriously and patients are supported to co-create a comprehensive safety plan.  The Connecting with People Suicide Assessment Framework E Tool (SAFETool) includes a set of clinical tools (fully peer reviewed and published) to ensure quality and consistency of care, which promotes a structured assessment and documentation process, which is designed to improve consistency at times of triage and referral between practitioners or different services.

This course aims to provide delegates with:

  • Understand the prevalence of self-harm and suicidal thoughts and behaviour and know the latest evidence.
  • Develop a compassionate approach suitable for a demanding and time-pressured environment.  They will know their role in suicide prevention and be able to use the resources provided to ask about suicidal thoughts and be able to undertake assessments to triage and respond accordingly.
  • Understand the function of self-harm and compassionately engage with people who self-harm; engage people who self-harm in harm minimization and enable them to explore additional ways of dealing with distress.
  • Use the Connecting with People SAFETool to enhance their assessment and safe triage of a suicidal individual.  They will have the skills to co-create an immediate safety plan.

Please note this Course has a maximum of 30 places, and will book out quickly. We recommend, if you are interested in attending, to book on as soon as possible.
REMEMBER: A place has not been reserved for you till you recive an official "acknowledgement of booking" email from the Andrew Sims Centre.
