The Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) provides a legal framework for decisions, treatment and care of persons unable to make such decisions for themselves. The MCA places the responsibility on the decision maker or care giver to establish incapacity for the relevant decision before the decision or care takes place.
Led by Dr Tim Branton, Dr Alison Stansfield and Mr Christian Walsh, this seminar will explain how the Mental Capacity Act works and offer guidance on when and how to assess decision making capacity for pa-tients in your care. It will outline the principles of the MCA and how it works, outline the two-stage capacity test, and finally highlight how to assess capacity. You will also have the opportunity to discuss clinically relevant case vignettes.
