Neuropsychiatric symptoms are frequent and impactful in people with Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease/Related dementias.
There have been important developments in the non-pharmacological management of agitation, our under-standing of the potential harms of atypical antipsychotics in people with neurodegenerative diseases and there have been exciting emerging pharmacological therapies for psychosis (e.g. pimavanserin) and agita-tion (e.g. analgesia, citalopram, dextromethorphan). The emerging research will be presented in the context of a recent International Psychogeriatric Associa-tion (IPA) expert consensus.
