Book EventLed by Dr PJ Saju, Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist (Bradford District Care Trust) and Medical Psychotherapist (South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust), this presentation will cover evolution of the concept and current diagnostic terminology. The value of a formulation-based approach, and importance of relationship-based care will be illustrated by case studies, and therapy.
The presentation aims to develop a deeper understanding of Functional Neurological Disorders (FND), and its management, based on formulation. Many of these patients are described as 'Heartsink' patients, and they are difficult to manage.
The presentation will help to foster a therapeutic attitude, as well as give some skills to help manage these patients.
After attending this course, delegates will be able to...
- Use psychological formulation in FND.
- Learn general management strategies in primary and secondary care.
- Develop a realistically positive therapeutic attitude.
Dr Saju, FRCPsych, has over 30 years of experience in various specialties in adult psychiatry. He has in-depth training in psychotherapy, particularly in CBT and Family Therapy.
He has been a psychotherapy supervisor since 2009, and has extensive experience in teaching and training. He will incorporate ideas from different therapy models in understanding and managing FND patients.
