Physical Update for Psychiatrists

Dr Wendy Neil, Consultant Psychiatrist & Deputy Medical Director at Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is chairing this conference which is designed for psychiatrists and delivered by clinicians who are experts in their field. This event will provide practical information centred around the assessment and management of physical health issues commonly encountered by people with mental disorders. With topics including: 

- Cardiology and the cardiovascular effects of psychotropics 

- Diabetes and the management of metabolic syndrome 

- Respiratory medicine and the interface with anxiety

- Renal diseases and the impact on psychotropic prescribing 

- Parkinson’s disease, Parkinson-plus syndromes and parkinsonism 

The sessions will combine case studies and evidence from relevant literature to help improve your confidence and help you to identify when to worry about a person’s physical health, when to call for help, who to call and with what information. 

After attending this event you will be able to: 

- Understand more about the key physical health issues affecting people with mental disorders and relevant advances in treatment. 

- Identify situations when a person’s physical illness/treatment for their physical illness may affect their mental state (and what you can do about it). 

- Identify situations when a person’s mental disorder/treatment for their mental disorder may affect their physical health (and what you can do about it).
